Master Kush is the long standing action animation offering from Kush Boys Worldwide. The story of Master Akira Kushimota’s battle against the Iluminazi Central Union (ICU) has expanded to a web toon, a web comic, and a graphic novel, rounding out its status as a premier player in the dynamic adult animation market. What is it about Master Kush that makes the comic so enduring and popular?
Master Kush is essentially Bruce Lee mixed with Marlon Brando and a little of Afro Samurai thrown in. Master Kush is a retired badass who seeks to live out his final days in peace and further training in the martial arts. His family and friends that inhabit the comic’s world are similarly well-meaning, aptly named characters that aid and entertain Master Kush during his numerous battles with the ICU. The comic combines the best elements of action, comedy, and cannabis; imagine if the cast of The Expendables was dropped into the world of Up in Smoke and maybe you can get a feel for what this comic is about.
To put a spark into the Master Kush franchise, Kush Boys Worldwide is in the process of producing a few new Master Kush offerings, while keeping current with the new-age pop culture. The first will be an online comic strip featuring Master Kush and all his usual pals. Andrew Todd and Drue Young are working on the strip which will take a more comical tone and update regularly with relevant and topical material, jabbing at politicians, popular event, and the media.
The second offering will be a web series that will show Master Kush’s exploits in full animation and with a killer hip-hop soundtrack. Animation by the brilliant Hong Ying Universe animation team will bring Master Kush’s LA to life with explosions, fight scenes, and zingers. The web series has already garnered internet buzz with its number one ranking on Animation Nation at the time of its debut.
Just as celebrities have gotten in line to support other Kush Boys Worldwide ventures such as Chronic Ice, Master Kush is garnering wide celebrity acclaim. Mark Wahlberg, Academy Award nominated actor and all around bad ass, lauded the Master Kush project by saying, “Master Kush has great potential. I look for the project to do big things.”
Star of Eragon and Friday Night Lights, Garrett Hedlund, also throws his support behind the project stating that “There's going to be a little bit of Master Kush in everybody. I am looking forward to more episodes.”
